Rufino Tamayo carried out an extensive graphical work parallel to his career as a painter. He expressed himself within this field of printed works by employing all existing techniques and even creating one of his own, mixography, providing contributions towards the renewal of the field of graphic art, in Mexico as well as in Europe and the United States.
This exhibition displays part of Tamayo’s achievements at the Tamarind Lithographic Workshop, a workspace and laboratory for experimentation in which, through the creation, research, valuation and distribution of lithographs, they sought to overcome the critical circumstances the discipline was going through in late-fifties in the United States.
During his time in the Tamarind Lithographic Workshop, Rufino Tamayo renewed graphic arts in the United States, opened up new avenues for artistic expression and contributed to the restoration of lithography’s prestige as a contemporary discipline.
